Sage upon a mountain

·Benhur

A wise man sat upon a mountain And watched the city far below ... He smiled and felt aloof in silence In a world he called his own. He knew that in the days to come; braves would climb the slope; and entreat upon him questions some riddles and woven thoughts That they themselves could solve Then they would leave then he would smile, aloof alone For peace returned again ... and as the braves got home They laughed and talked and smiled For answers they have found for sure They'll satisfy the crowd Yet one man stood there frail and thin And this question did he ask "Why climb the mount at all for answers?" Why risk our lives for words alone for be he magus, sage or wiseman who desires to make a difference; why make the mount his only friend ... and look at us unworthy; when little ones can fill his days when others still can call him friend he can be to us a living inspiration as we desire his presence here not for presence sake or glory and not as wise man either but just as man ...
