Self beyond the Mirror

I raise my hand to the smooth surface My reflection blinks back at me beyond the glass I trail my fingers across it, trembling when the cold seeps into my skin It feels nice I rest my forehead against the barrier I can't help but wonder To some, a mirror is just an object One that shows your physical appearance But not to me I see a reflection of the soul In a split form of light and dark My dark form resides in light My light form resides in darkness In the world beyond the mirror The shield that hides my true reflection The monster that resides there Is it truly me? I cannot deny it The reflection of who I am They are two halves of one whole Who I try to be Who I really am When I try to reach through the glass My other side reaches foward too Our fingers touch But there's no warmth, no feeling in the touch Because we're not connected We're one in the same But we're not together Because we can't be For us to be interwoven I have to be both But I'm not I cower in the form of my own reflection Is this my true weakness? If I shattered the mirror Would I become my other self? The self that resides beyond the mirror
