Sever
i Piece by piece I untangle the valves of your heart this cardiac surgery performed while you sleep; smile Digit by digit your fingers unlace from their comfortable hold, entwined with the bones of my ribcage ii Your sleep-talk (for that is how I see it) barely permeates; my bubble does not break, does not listen, only hears your words which ring dully in my ears, around and around, I'm going deaf now iii I have coated myself. You cannot penetrate, you cannot enter, but you will not notice the difference, your naked eyes no match for my precision So subtle, so sweet the change over iv The blood trickles from you. I am deep in concentration, thinking only of these newly severed ties, only of the reds and blues, the aggressive tones which colour your insides, only thinking of how I break them, stitches perfect... v I will miss you. "How sad," they will say.
