Shackles

Expectations, shackle to the ground, Words, like stones freely thrown around. Scars, that should have never barred, judgmental people, sit and glare. Watching, waiting, for the next time she falls, All along they were the real cause. Pulling, tugging, against the chains, those meant to bring hope, only causing her pain. Fighting, trying, with all of her might, will this girl ever break free, or is this a losing fight? Failure, laughter, ringing through her head, reminders of her past, better left unsaid. Goals, dreams, desiring to be more, slipping between her fingers, just like before. Sadness, tears, clouding her view, will this forever be her life, or is she allowed something new. Determination, change, a new point of view, no more living for them, live for you. Smiling, laughing, feels like ages ago, the feeling of moving on, the feeling of letting go. Shackles of expectations, shatter to the ground, judgmental glances, nowhere to be found. Words of discouragement, fall on deaf ears, as she walks away, forgetting her fears. Reaching, clawing, trying to pull her under, but that girl is long gone, leaving people to wonder. Mistakes, regrets, it's to late now, with the slip of your tongue, she made a new vow. Forward, success, no looking to the past, those words grew her stronger, the shackles couldn't last. Sorrow, tears, no longer hers to bare, the girl once shackled, just doesn't care. Expectations, goals, now only her own, she will not fail, she won't go back home. Fears, doubts, fading away, even if she stumbles, she knows she will be okay.
