Shattered Globe

Hello, God it's me again. Things down here are a mess. We sure could use some help, Lord though it's our own fault I guess. You took six days to make the world, the beasts and birds and trees. Then you granted man dominion over all the land and seas. You said, "Go forth and multiply". "Seed this brave new land with life". But before long, Cain slew Abel and began this chain of strife. And so down through the ages, man's first thought had been to slay, creating patterns of savagery that are still observed today. From the lovely isles around Luzon, so often splashed with gore to the turbulent climes of Africa, where they've loosed the dogs of war. A tyrant's heel is set on Cuba. Religion churns the Middle-East. While screams of pain and outrage from the Americas have never ceased. All around this battered, war-torn globe, the land is soaked with blood of blatantly butchered humanity without regard for ill or good. Please, Lord look down upon us and bring man beneath your spell. Let us bind up Terra's wounds and make this planet well. Please, God put an end to slaughter. Banish politics and greed. Establish harmony and order, so we'll see all nations freed. Give us faith and brotherhood; the will to plan and act. Let love and understanding bring a peaceful, global pact. Yes, I know I'm being naive but it sure would be a sight, seeing all men work together to set our poor world right. I know destruction isn't likely, for our leaders are too smart to take the chance that nuclear war might blow our world apart. Well, Lord I guess that's all for now but soon, again I'll call unless some fool should push a button and atomize us all! * This is another one of my "older" poems, therefore the exact circumstances in the 5th stanza have changed somewhat, to my knowledge there are no more skirmishes in the Phillipines. But, war is ever with us and with frightful technologies a global wipe-out is a real possibility, so I've submitted this since it as applicable today as it was decades ago.
