We visited the ruins where the hijacked jets Tore down the two statues And the two thousand and some Beings who lost everything The first time there was dust all over People standing together, holding on To each other in their new struggle Both against and for humanity A small monument had risen Flowers in the midst of dust You became a rock, frozen silent, still And your mind clouded over, as fog This time there are building Tools and machines everywhere And a museum makes our eyes Sweat and turn a deeper shade But outside the museum we return a man stops us and we become silent He asks us to help him and our hearts Softened, surrender underneath The woman in her tour guide gear Shares a part of her soul silence- What it felt like then silence- what it feels like now The bleak stillness, the grief And turmoil turned optimistic “New York and the Nation Will overcome, overturn the silence.”
