Sleepless Nights
Trapped between awake and asleep Always conscious but thoroughly unaware I lay here and stare into the darkness of the night Hoping for tranquility and wishing to slip into repose Body tired and worn out from the demands of my day A mind that will not stop scrutinizing that day I want to leave this day behind To slip deep into an unconscious sleep of forgetfulness No more anxious thoughts or plaguing details I yearn for a comforting rest from this world A break from my conscious mind To no longer be taunted by it Silence within Eyes closed I wait and pray for this feeling to come But alas, more of the same Rapid fire of incoherent thoughts When will I rest?!
