roosters crow at dawn weathered old men smelling of cigarettes and morning coffee sit on stools in the red barn milking cows their first strokes of breasts as gentle as lovers cattle lowing in response while outside tractors chug laboriously by to plow winter-barren land in preparation for planting summer’s sea of green yesterday’s way of life disappearing as surely as the mountain gorilla
