She took the seat that faced the room Beneath a light that shined in her eyes Looking up as she paused for thought gazing occasionally toward the tree whose festive shimmer glowed warmly on her beaming countenance as she laughed melodiously at whatever he was saying surely reflecting the bond surely which I have not yet found and my heart ached with joy that perhaps it was within reach And then we met, she and I At the bathroom stall I had to tell her, “I’d been watching you all— You with your boyfriend, or husband Your smile when you’re with him I want that someday!” She chuckled, “He’s my friend. And gay.” And smiled the whole way home.
