So Quiet it is Upon the Street

So quiet it is upon the street, And empty cars are parked on drives; There’s no one’s there to say ‘Good Day’, Cos ‘tis a danger to their lives. I hear a blackbird sing - and a cooing dove; But no one stirs – no longer safe, My neighbours neither seen nor heard; The shops are closed - empty now, So many woes that we’ve incurred. A gentle breeze now rustles leaves above; The noontide sun – irate it seems, Above the Wolds it glows so red; The heat and smell pervade our lives, And there, I see, a cat lies dead. Far distant now the Wolds in summer haze; Upturned bins pollute the path, With rubbish spilt along the street; A lonesome dog now ruffles the filth, No neighbours there for him to greet. A gentle breeze, so cool, so softly plays; So quiet and lonely - oppressive too, What horrors does life to all convey? So no one ventures out for fear, Of death that stalks the world today. The rooks now circle high above my head; And games in the park - and parties too - They took their toll of young and old; A tiny virus now rules the earth, With strife and grief un-foretold. They screech and scream - Im filled with dread.

Love creativity - especially writing - poems especially. Love my wife, cats, our church, reading, warm weather (so rare here!) and snow - quite common these days - even in spring....
