Startled
Startled Do you remember when nerves claimed your throat And one face raced across your mind as if You were stuck in an immortal state of time? See more, do more, hear more. Finding an alternate focus is hard to do. What if you’re like me and I’m just like you? (Then we’re both in trouble). See less, do less, hear less. Maybe I’ll be lucky and escape this path so worn Out by me; but there is little hope in hope And even less in avoiding stress. See all, do all, hear all. But no stress means no thoughts; a stillborn child. Let me think without over-thinking this; No anger should arise. See none, do none, hear none. Heartbeat going fast… faster than it has ever been. Do you remember that involuntary reaction From your first time? See much, do much, hear much. Before words were spoken And fast glances were exchanged? You never thought that this day would come again. See little, do little, hear little. I know where I have been And I know where I want to go. Does that even remotely include you? See you, do you, hear you. You caught me by surprise And I’m startled by this turn of events, But I’m staying for the whole ride. See me, do me, hear me.
