Summer Nights
The darkness is wrapped around me Keeping me safe and warm The stars above dance around the moon And the moonbeam smilesupon the earth All that the moonlight reveals shine with honor And other reach towards it In hopes to feel its loving touch As the trees sway to the gentle music of the wind Crickets adds their rhythmic chirps Along with the soft buzz of the mosquitoes Even as a mosquito stings me Sending their wildfire of poison Through my blood and The burning itch attacks my skin I cannot feel the discomfort in my sea of calm Taking a deep breath My body warm at the smell of trees, grass and flowers Mixed perfectly, each adding the perfect amount To create a perfume that no one can duplicate As I look to the sky I feel hypnotized As the stars beckon me to join them I reach one hand to the sky Willing them to take me away When the first ray of the sun breaks through the sky Eliminating the stars in its path The grass begins to shed tears Leaving a light mist of dew in its path I cannot help to shed my own The crickets stop chirping In the farewell of the night And birds start to greet the day As the last star twinkle out of existence And the light begins to expose me And strip me of my blanket of dark I feel like a part of me has left too I sigh as my heart feels heavy And wish for the beauty to come back To wisp me into the majestic wonder I just witnessed But, alas I just stand there staring at the sky with wounded eyes No matter what beauty the light may bring I will always be drawn to summer nights. I'm trying something new, never did a poem without rhyming before so lets see how this goes.
