"Sun's face grows suddenly dark...", my translation from Russian of a poem by Dmitry Artis

No doubt, prose and verses will be written about events in Ukraine. Some of them will be translated to English (especially those, that fall in line with the Western media's viewpoint). Quite possibly, you'll come across those works. But, while reading them, remember - Donetsk and Luhansk were there first, by many years Here's a poem by Dmitry Artis (real name - Dmitry Krasnov); a Russian poet, playwright, literary critic. Since the events of 2014, Dmitry's works often address the Donbass conflict and the deaths of Donetsk and Luhansk civilians due to shellings by Kiev-controlled armed forces Sun's face grows suddenly dark When, at a pretty bomb crater, Kids lay to rest their pet cat In a shoebox wrapped with bright paper The sounds rang clear in the night As if giant zip bags exploding A drain hole for all of cat's lives Was dug by a shard of a rocket The boys are stern-faced, they don't cry War kills friends - that's how it is Solemnly, stones pierce the sky Fired from kids' wooden slings Huddling, the girls follow suit Sandals tread thick clay and mud "Oh, how could you; How could How could you leave us like that?!" While in the clouds up on high Frowning in anger and bitter Someone enormous and bright Fills one more box with cat litter
