Sunset on the Autumn Equinox
A pervasive chill invades the air, As in the garden he sits, and sees The clouds disperse, and setting sun Now sinking behind the distant trees. The sky displays a glowering mask, That frowns despair with growing chill; The gathering darkness surely swathes The world he’s known - foreboding ill. “What now for me, as years decline?” “What now I see in threatening glow?” “What now?” He cries; “My life assign?” “What now my golden years bestow?” "Look up! Look Up! The sun has set." Relaxing now, he feels at peace; The glowering sky no more a threat, His life? At last he finds release. 26 September 2018 This poem was written following my witnessing a remarkable sunset following a dull and cool day on the Autumnal Equinox. It leaves the reader to consider the fate of person watching the sun going down (on life perhaps?), with the prospect of the long winter of life ahead……
