"That Little Town"

"That Little Town" They gorged themselves on cherries, in the orchard they had found, while they were converging, on that Pennsylvania town. Those Rebels ate and took their fill, to sate their stomach's urge. What else would they find ahead, in this town called "Gettysburg"? As the fates would have it, they did not go unseen, some Union troops had spotted them, down in that ravine. The next three days would soon unleash, that fury known as war, raining death and devestation, and maimed bodies by the score. After seventy-two hours, their fighting would be done, the Union would claim victory, while General Lee was on the run. The aftermath brought sorrow, and red fields of agony. A gory human sacrifice, remained for all to see. The people of "That Little Town", then opened up their hearts, to all the many suffering souls, whose lives were torn apart. A local lawyer then procured the acerage and space, so that the dead could be interred within a sacred place. A formal dedication brought two speakers there that day. One speech was long, the other brief, both spoke in his own way. "That Little Town" would have it's name, encased in history, because His Gettysburg Address,........... reminds us of it's legacy.
