THE BALLAD OF AXE MAN’S BRIDGE * It’s a tale told before and will be told again The most renowned of local lore yetnever told the same * The courting lad was very young and so too was his lass his heart however had been stung with wanton need for ass * They drove to a secluded place where they could be alone Where no man dared to show his face for fear the Axe man’s realm * While passion called they did delay his call of nature met and near the floorboards she did lay till deed would be complete * The minutes, they flew by like hours awaiting his return While the clicking sound above had unraveled her last nerve * When her patience had run out and her fear was overcome When she finally looked about then what she saw had stunned * For hanging from the tallest tree with rope of sturdy nature Her lover’s feet swung free at half their previous stature * His arms they were completely gone His eyes stared dark and cold and as he swayed one with the wind You could hear that clicking sound * As his bloodystumps thumped on topthe hood of the car Now fueled with fear she jumped but she did'ntget too far * If you ever want to scratch an itch To indulge your unbridled passion Don’t go out to Axe man’s Bridge Or you’ll never be coming back again * WordPlaya, February 11, 2010
