The beauty of misery

What would existence be like If we all chose to mimic the sun as bright How can some live incandescent Without the shadows and dark of night? The notes of laughter infectiously float The songs of joy upon the air, But where would smiles and dreams and blushes be Without the songs of cold despair? So let the sprites and pixies waltz Behind it all are those who cook, Some shall get the crowns and sceptres, Some won't get the second look.
