The Bee and the Birds
At comfort break during cross-country run, A bee hived off; please pardon the pun! Runner stung on...at that word I do baulk; Finished the course with bow-legged walk! Cross-husbandry...is that what it's called? At some of its outcomes, I'm truly appalled! A farmer in outback a pheasant let loose, Led to pheagle, phartridge, even a phoose! What happened when that bird ran amuck, And started to woo a fearsome old duck? The offspring begat, you do want to know, Farmer said simply, we just call him Joe! Poultry farmer, lady, discussed procreation, At inn over drinks...a brief celebration! Hens are now laying, they're going quite wild, Co-incidence! she cried, for I'm now with child! And what did you do, to get them a-going? Switched cocks, said he, triumphantly crowing! Co-incidence again!...stunning smile, heaven sent; Just can't figure out, by what that she meant!
