The Cold
I amnumbed by the tears, Falling fatefully from my face. Tiny crystallized droplets of emotion, Entering my mouth for a bitter sweet taste. I feel it rumble through my veins like thunder. I'm floating close to the surface of freedom, but this current of hate is pulling me under. Please, I'm so close. Don't let this shit get the best of me. I'm better than that, so please just let me leave. My head breaches the surface, The cold air surrounds me knowing no boundaries. I am in the middle of an iced lake surrounded by mountains. This is hell, a voice assures me from somewhere in my head. This is where you will die, be revived only to relive it again. Confused I stammer and begin to swim to shore. This is no heaven, but hell? Of that factI am unsure. I reach the mainland, hypothermiasetting in fast. I gasp as my last breath is painfully lifted from my chest. I feel it rumble through my veins like thunder. I'm floating close to the surface of freedom, but this current of hate is pulling me under. Please, I'm so close. Don't let this shit get the best of me. I'm better than that, so please just let me leave.

I am 20 years old, fresh out of boot camp. Infantry for life, hooah.
