The Copse on Yonder Hill
A Poem set in Cherry Burton, East Yorkshire I feel a breeze so cool upon my face - I hear the leaves above now gently waft; A peaceful view of distant Wolds I see - Hills of Chalk so gentle, smooth, and soft. Now down the pretty country lane I stroll I see, behind the copse on yonder hill - In the glow of setting sun so red - St Michael’s Church - a church of great goodwill. From fields afar I see the rooks return, And now they glide and circle with such skill; So peaceful now they’re settled on their nests, So high upon the copse on yonder hill. Oh how angry now the setting sun doth seem! And now the rooks take off and circle high; Oh how wild and frenzied they’ve become! As now they screech and scream – let none deny. What has happened? – why’s the sun so red? What has made the rooks so wild and shrill? What a shock – a warning now? I ask - Why now the copse on yonder hill?

Love creativity - especially writing - poems especially. Love my wife, cats, our church, reading, warm weather (so rare here!) and snow - quite common these days - even in spring....
