The Crawl

You love me You say my name with that affectionate tone Laughing at my little flaws But what kind of love is this? Indefinite and free as the sea And I just can’t get these words right In my head, in this bed, on this page And every repetition feels like another disappointment Trudging through my brain like footprints on the kokoda trail My dreams and your practicalities are driving me insane, Making me look for the impossible truth For which I am blind, but I can see too perfectly to ignore in the harsh light Sing my name from the rooftops Drop a dozen roses at my feet? But will you stay with me? I am really yours and you mine? Or are these words just me and you playing games neither us can win Snake eyes roll the dice of our love I can’t wait much longer for my luck to turn For you to decide I am worth being all Not just a minute part of your life And still... these words stick like honey in a hive sweet and unattainable But, baby I just might run if these bees sting me What will you do if I can’t return? How can we live our lives together separately It makes not sense to me
