The Cut

..hey guys, havent written in a while, hope you enjoy this one! This poem is deceiving, so don't fall into what you think immediately. This poem is about something completely different... --Enjoy A brief sting wasn’t the first thing to sink in when she cut in, That would later come to tell. But as the tears fell, I got lost in the sky that her blue eyes held. I just stopped and watched, As she gripped the blade tighter, I looked at the clock. “I’m a fighter,” she’d sniff and chuckle, Almost self conscious when her knees began to buckle. It wasn’t over the tears.. it was the laughter, After showing only a fraction of her satisfaction through her smirk, Those tears were only a reaction. Her passion was in the knife, Barely thinking twice before she took that next slice. The only thing comforting about the following sting was the ring of her choice. Almost in a passive voice, She kept going.. Showing that knowing is only the start. But sometimes I can’t tell her different emotions apart. “Don’t laugh,” She kept pleading, Almost needing me to soothe the mood. “No matter how many times I do this the tears wont go away.” She almost knew that the truth was hidden in my delay. “You shouldn’t worry,” I heard myself say. Lily hurried to the sink to rinse her fingers off. “What, you do it too?” “Yeah I cried, one or two times.. a few times, But don’t we all?” I just laughed, Because the agitation of this situation i’ve experienced oh so much in the past. Her nervous smile took a while to sink in. And I just kept thinking the wine we were drinking Was more than just for the sauce she was stirring. Her mascara ran south, She opened her mouth when the sleeve wiped the black off her cheek. I can’t get over her sleek. All the cool, calm, and collective she projected while I sat there meek. We’d laugh about it later over dinner, She had it in her even after all that. Sliding a knife playfully across the table like she was still able to cut. But the overcast grey skies in her eyes only cleared somewhat. We concluded that the tears were eluded in this light, Although this feeling would only be alright and bright until dinner tomorrow night..
