The Dunk

THE Dunk The moment of truth Jumps to our attention, Where time has passed us by Failure need I mention? We can try and try But at our age it won't happen, The goal is way too high The backboard we're not slappin'. Those days of our youth Excited by every try, Oh, so very close Wishing we could fly. The nylon catching our attempt To break all gravities' laws, Defying the genes of generations With its many flaws. Practicing the timing Again, Again, andAgain, Wishing I was stronger And not so thin. The dreams have been endless Throughout mygyms' walls, My name on the loudspeaker After the play, it calls. Getting taller and taller With final hopes of the dream, Hanging on every attempt Being watched by the team. Once again very close But justnot quite there, Bounce, Bounce, Run Jump into theair. As I come down I notice what has transpired, Years have passed by me My mind strong, body tired. Now I'man older man Childhood left me many years ago, That goal looming taller The end result I know. That time is over now Hopes of making that shot, Can only be in my dreams Its success cannot be sought. So take the timethroughout life To maximize the effort every day, Sometimes you'll make the dunk But you won't know until you play.
