The glistening snow shall us betray Each step to freedom is one to dread, Look not behind, we must away Tears nor blood today shall shed. Dear mammy beneath the roof now sleeps And dreams for us a home to find, Behind us now the darkness creeps Our lands taken by hearts unkind. When thee are grown do surely mourn The love your mammy gave to thee, The holy fire on her breast worn To give us miles and make it free.
