The Land of Smiles
The Land of Smiles (Thailand) A girl so young and full of life, Has died her thousandth death today, Her countless years of grief and strife, Mean nothing to those men who pay, To lay beside her just one night, And treat her like no human should, To them a harmless fun delight, For her a fate misunderstood, In Pattaya is “Walking Street”, In Thailand’s southern ocean shore, A place where men have gone to cheat, Where every girl’s assumed a whore, These men go home and live their lives, Breathe not a word of deeds they’ve done, They care for children and their wives, And forget about their night of fun, But each night’s sin she can’t forget, From countless men she’s cast aside, The many nights of love and sweat, By morning time she’s thrown outside, She dances on a dim lit stage, Her flowing curves exposed to see, Where men can gawk and spend their wage, And pile upon her life’s debris, The pills have helped to ease the pain, And take her mind to places new, Barbiturates and white cocaine, Have eased her to this life’s taboo, They buy their drinks to calm their nerves, Smoke cigarettes and drink champagne, They dine on cheese and cheap Hors d'oeuvres, While she has gone to prick her vein, Each night a stronger dose she’ll need, To stop her tears from being shed, Her mother’s plea she wouldn’t heed, By morning time, they’d find her dead. But death she’d felt a thousand times, In morning’s harsh and sober light, There’s no such thing as harmless crimes, Resulting in so sad a plight, But to her fate, you’ll turn your head, Across the ocean’s distant miles, Ignore the tortured and the dead, That fester in, “The Land of Smiles”
