The Last Teardrop

·TheNightShift

A teardrop runs down my face And falls on the farewell note Spreading onto the ink of blue Obscuring the message I wrote The last thing I shall ever write Final words of a broken man I care not whoever reads them As by then I’ll not give a damn Which is the correct signature? Yours Truly, Faithfully maybe I put ‘To whom it may concern’ But no one is concerned for me Without a Will and Testament A Post Script I add on the end Bequeath all I have to my dog My honest and faithful friend He is standing beside the chair Nuzzles my hand with his nose He looks up as I say ‘Goodbye’ It’s almost as though he knows ‘Do not worry old friend’ I say Someone’s sure to care for you He gives me his soft little bark I answer ‘Bud, I love you too’ There's no one else who’ll miss me A final stroke I give to his head Then go off to meet my destiny The last teardrop has been shed
