The long winding road

Thorny ,slippery, steep, long, winding road These stones are not cobblestones They become harder each time And Away from them, a slippery road You try to hold on to the branches But you find yourself slipping Hoping to see a tarred road Hoping to reach your destination Yet all you see is smoke Assuring of home, not too far away Anxiety makes you impatient Impatience makes you run And running makes you stumble, and fall again You try getting up You look at your bruises Each time you get up You fall again You give up trying You feel you cannot go on Then a voice you hear ‘Don’t give up’ it says You pull yourself together You limp , yet keep walking Suddenly it rains and your hopes are dashed You stand and let it fall on your shoulders Every drop crushing your spirit Then suddenly it stops The birds start singing The rainbow fills the horizon You smell the scent of flowers And hear the familiar sounds And you know you’re home
