It’s hard to deliver kindness My scars didn’t come from love, You dealt out judgments decreed From the one you served above. Perhaps I was just too different Or maybe just the same, Your youthful sins reflected In the syllables of my name. Thus, the soundtrack of my being Was a mournful melody, And my quest for your approval Was not the remedy. But time has Her way of bringing Those wounds to a close, Though they at times still sting As my timeline grows. As love became indifference I simply numbed the pain, For time brought those to who I could never do the same. Now you’re gone, not knowing That my heart could still forgive, I escaped your wrath and somehow found My own path on which to live. The words that sang from my Queen’s lips Hit home and rang so true, “You didn’t mean to be cruel Somebody hurt you too”.
