The Naming of a Sloop
This was the sister poem to "Longing Westward" The Naming of a Sloop She stretches her beautifully crafted legs With sails unfurled like open arms Like some gorgeous white goddess of the sea Seizing the winds of change She is Fast Driving east like an eagle of freedom Riding steady on the opal foamy spray Bouncing rythmically, driving onward Like the beating of hearts in love She is Powerful Her sheets block out the very fire of the sun Like the open wings of some avenging angel Bearing down on endless masses Laughing madly all the while She is Peaceful On a long reach driving westward You can almost taste the beauty As you ride on heavens divide and gaze upon the cosmos above But what to name her This wild untamed rose This hammer of the gods This temple of solitude What to name her ..Serafina.. When I first wrote this I ended it differently, it didnt end with her name because she hadnt been named yet. But I think I like it better this way, gives closure. Whats your oppinion? The original last line was: A sailors dilemma indeed..
