The Onion Principle We sat comfortably in a quiet place, Ordering wonderful food as is The wont of the Elderly Privileged. Predictably, as such men do, we Soon turned to a discussion of Dealing with Sudden Unexpected Changes. My friend who once Trained for the priesthood and now Daily meets with and assists Desperate people, a Hardened warrior who fought in the Terrible Double War, whose Chubby countenance beams with the Peace of Buddha, offered advice: “Roll with it,” he said. Predictably, our moment of Calm and friendship was abruptly Interrupted by the arrival of our Pleasantly motherly server. “Do you still have your Traditional Tomato Sauce?” My friend asked. Predictably, the response was a Surprise. “Well, now it has onions in it.” “Onions...onions...onions...” Predictably, my friend's peace Parted. He had suffered a devastating Sucker-punch and I, of course Suffered with him. Onions here; The Classic Sauce, Gone. Rallying bravely, as warriors are Taught to do, he rolled with it and Ordered. “Chicken Parmesan,: he said. Predictably, as is the way of boys who are Competitive, I attacked his Weak Spot: “Roll with it? Roll with your onions, Dude!” Predictably, he laughed, and we Predictably Further discussed the management of Uncertainty. I don't know philosophy, but I'm absolutely certain that Philosophers know all about this, and I'm absolutely certain that they call it "The Onion Principle" "Roll With Life's Adversities!"
