The Peri
Though many woo, but one alone may win the periwinkle crown desired by all who wear the myrtled cloak.Such bards will sing their sweetest songs, then wait for victory's call to mount the step and claim the accolade ambition sought, though modesty forbade. A rainbow-threaded cloak is theirs to keep, a trophy passed to history's domain; the crown must be released in twelve months' leap to open competition once again. For none may own perfection over long, the Muse must ever hear a newer song. Though some retain the title several years, the entrants start on equal foot each time the roll is called. This equity endears but more the wreath that crowns the winning rhyme. No bard can claim the Peri as his own, he might as well claim ownership of Dawn.
