The Pipes of Kerilee
Argent ships of vapour trailing Wisps of golden plume, Plough seas of rocky silk beneath The lighthouse of the moon; With sails that bloom the passion of Imaginations winds, Speeding vessels onward to the Land of dreams and whims; A balmy night we share upon The beach of Memory, And gaze across time's ocean to A green and misty sea; Kelpish waters beryl green where Ocean currents fleet, Make maelstrom devils in the waves When shoal and deep do meet; Unto an island with a cove Amidst that foggy sea, Isle of emerald mermaid folk who Call it Kerilee; And now the full moon lights the lee The skies are sheer the stars to see I hear the mermaids call to me “Come o'er the waves to Kerilee” With emerald merfolk to sojourn And in that cove their secrets learn The magic of their pipes discern The playing of their dance to yearn— Together we'll travail the mist And reach that hidden isle, To hear the emerald merfolk pipes And tarry for a while; Come with me now and listen to the Pipes of Kerilee, Played by the emerald merfolk to The rhythms of the sea; And hear the moonlight echoing On each melodious stave, Harmony that cants the kiss as Moonbeam touches wave; The croon of gentle swells that heave To Pipers breath and soul, And sends the distant cymbal snare As waves on rocks do roll; To bathe our ears on twinkling lights From distant pulsing stars, As tinkling bells they dance the swells And ring canorous bars; The wash of unseen currents crossing 'Neath the turquoise seas, Harpists fingers fanning rainbow Waves of melodies; Soft breezes run their flowing bows Across the taut grass strings, And winds that make through reeds and pines Their haunting oboes sing; Seagulls cry in casting sky their Caws imposing horns, That pierce the merfolk Piper's tune With tones of grey forlorn; “Pipe up my merry merfolk band And play The Mermaid Dance!” Pipers brace their rhythms pace and Waves begin to prance; Mermaid nymphs dance in the bay A writhing ecstasy, As natures unleashed orchestra Performs her symphony; Maddened waves chase swirling mist to Music's rhythmic beat, While windswept strings of violins Cry from the bending wheat; And tempest clouds amass above The woodwind on the dunes, Thunder rolls its Kettledrums in Distant rumbling booms; The Pipers pipe their frenzied jig Till clouds above them breach, To rains that pour in loud applause That flood the storm-swept beach; Gusts of wind that force the pace, Gales that chase to Pipers trace, Maelstrom swirls in twirling dance, Waves and spray in Piper's trance; “Enough, enough my Piper's, cease! Lest all be swallowed by the seas! Belay your magic pipes that play Enchanted notes that rile the bay!” For we have heard the oceans roar To merfolk pipe and nature's score And listened to the music of The seas below and skies above; And Gaia's kind indulgences Will ever entertain, Her patience she will manifest By humouring our game; But nature is a tiger, wild Impossible to tame, And she will never bend her neck To take the Piper's chain; And woe to them that think to keep Her symphony contained, For they that try will meet demise And pipe their pipes in vain; For she will rain the hurricane To meet with your applause, The earthquake and tsunami's tunes Will sound on these fair shores; And rhythm's of volcanoes beat Shall make the mermaids dance, To seas that boil and waves of fire Will emerald merfolk prance; The twisting of tornadoes winds Shall rock your reeling house, With floods and inundations will Her music's passion douse; For many are the symphonies In Gaia's repertoire, And she is want to play them all In this enchanted spa; So rest my merry merfolk friends And play your pipes no more, Till we return to our sojourn On this your misty shore; Beyond these ancient sandy shores Where blows the Irish Breeze, And ocean mists forever churn Where gulf-stream warms the seas; And you will play your pipes once more To rhythms of the sea, As we do yen to hear again The Pipes of Kerilee.
