The Skater
Prologue The skater, a kid, a solid frame Hair long and filled with curls Clothes and shoes mostly brand name And takes special interest in the girls Skating all day under the sun Fatigued and sweating, about to hurl- Ey – always carefree, outgoing, and fun Perseverance and endurance, a belt buckle he sports No trick too whack, fear no one DC and Famous, clothes of all sorts Extra bearings in pocket, a wrench in hand Never lays down, never aborts. *** Tale Skateboarding is not a crime I think and get ready for the school day Better grab my board; runnin’ short on time Lucky for me school’s not far away Friends to some, foes of others To many who don’t know skaters, are gay Daydreaming in class, teachers yell, O brother Disregarding school agenda for my own Dreaming of tricks that would make only mother Proud – bell rings, off to shred all alone Ollied the dock but careened into the forklift Scratches and bruises, and two broken bones Back home for painkillers, into sleep I drift My pride unbroken and spirits raised To wake up tomorrow and start a new shift. ******
