THE SNAKESKIN (Revised)
The dry snakeskin a devil’s glove left under the tree what had been and what will be again. And when he came Tapping at the door The uninvited Black hat and coat The silver in his hand All souls have their price The women wailed The pale child. Death, he comes so quietly takes his due and leaves what cannot grow.
