The Song of Mortals

A steady failing beat, Eyes slamming wide As ghastly silence steals the night The howling of defeat. Panic seizes. Eyes dripping terror in cold blank stare Hands gripping empty strands of air. A Second Hand now freezes. And it emerged, a darkened path, was this my Death? Could it be so? Will I be dragged down Death’s dark row? And now so close, I smelled its filthy breath. What are you? What have you come to take? Speak now your mind or hold your peace forever! You must have made a grave mistake! REPENT MY SON, FOR THAT I’ VE NEVER. I AM DEMISE IN ALL HER GLORY, THE ORCHESTRA OF MAN’S GREAT STORY, BE GREATFUL YOU HAVE HAD A CHANCE TO LIVE, I AM MAN’S MUSE OF MOTIVATION, THE GHOSTLY VERVE OF INSPIRATION, AND BY THE WAY I NEVER TAKE, I GIVE. I loathe you with my being and more, my heart bleeds pain, my soul is sore, I beg you do not take another step, Hunter of man, slayer of life, injustice multiplied by strife THE ONLY THING INJUST IS MY FALSE REP. I FILL THE POET’S HEART WITH WONDER, WITHOUT ME THINKERS COULD NOT PONDER, FOR EVERY FURTILE MIND I OVERWHEALM, I TREAT THE SAME BOTH KINGS AND PEASANTS, WHAT WOULD LIFE MEAN WITHOUT MY PRESENCE? I AM THE ONLY JUSTICE IN YOUR REALM! Look at the tears that streak my eyes, my years are meek for my demise, Could it be so my fate has been cemented? Please listen; I love life too much, the summer’s breeze, a woman’s touch YOU HUMANS ALWAYS TAKE YOUR LIVES FOR GRANTED. RECALL THE SNEERING, WHINNING, MOANING, THE BLEATING, BITCHING AND THE GROANING, EVERY SINGLE ONE OF YOU COMPLAINS, SO I HAVE COME AS YOUR SOLUTION, THE FINAL WORTHY RESOLUTION, THY LIBERATOR FROM THY MORTAL CHAINS. If not for me then think of others, for I have sisters, lovers, brothers, Consider all the agony you’d cause, There’s one thing I don’t take for granted; my mother’s face would die lamented O FOOLISH MORTAL… THAT IS NOT MY CLAUSE. JUST WRAP YOURSELF IN MY DARK CLOAK, FOR WHERE I AM FROM NO EYE WILL SOAK, NO WRIST WILL EVER SPLIT UNDER A KNIFE, I DO NO HARM, I’M NOT DECEIVING, SORROW AND PAIN ARE FOR THE LIVING SO TAKE UP ALL YOUR GRIEVANCES WITH LIFE. Tell me then, what does await? Will I walk through the pearly gate? What will be the state of my existence? Energy nor comes nor goes, I swear upon scientific prose, I must not give in to repose! I’VE TRULY HAD ENOUGH OF YOUR RESISTENCE. YOUR FEEBLE MINDS DROWN IN ILLUSIONS, HOW DO YOU REACH SUCH STRANGE CONCLUSIONS? I AM THE SINGLE TRUTH YOU’LL EVER REACH, I AM YOUR ONE AND ONLY PREACHER, YOUR HOLY MAN AND GREATEST TEACHER, BUT MY LESSONS ARE THE HARDEST ONES TO TEACH. Oh lord, before your grace I cower, please save me in my darkest hour, Do not let this heart depart and shrivel, I pray the devil hear my voice, I’ll sell my soul! I have no choice WHAT TRITENESS IN YOUR NEVER ENDING DRIVEL. OK, SUPPOSE THAT THEY ARE REAL, ALL OF MY CHILDREN PLEAD AND DEAL, I VE HEARD THE TOUGHEST MEN APPEAL, BUT NEVER DO THESE BEINGS AWAKEN, THEY WERE CREATED IN MY NAME, FOREVER CAPTIVES OF MY GAME, MY GENTLE TOUCH INFLATES THEIR FAME, IF I DIE THEN WHO NEEDS GOD OR SATAN? Grief strickens me like a disease I am begging you down on my knees, my body shakes in violent bouts of fear. PLEASE, NO MORE TALK OR SLEAZE, YOUR SOUL WILL BE SOON AT ITS EASE, YOUR FATE IS HERE AND THUS YOU MUST ADHERE. But oh so much… WAS SET AND CAST? But all my dreams… WERE LUSH AND VAST? But how could life… AH YES… FLY BY SO FAST. JUST SAVE THIS BREATH, FOR IT WILL BE YOUR LAST. And slowly subsides the pain, oh how I’ll miss its earthly reign, All prospects at this point look bleak, I reminisce with painful strain of chasing monetary gain… I fear I lived my life in vain. A single tear runs down my cold pale cheek. And now escapes the will to fight, I’ve never felt this way before, There is no more wrong, there is no more right, My being sails gently through a door, Around me grow the walls of night, But Wait! Oh how brilliant! How marvelous! I see the most astounding -----

My muse can be unseemly and nomadic although she fancies meter and good rhyme, her diligence and output are sporadic, and some may say she’s moving past her prime. At times she’s off consorting with the sages reflecting on existence, as it were, At...
