The summer of the ladybirds
The long summer of 1976 Memories of hot school holiday bliss Britain's hottest summer for 249 years 16 weeks as hot as 96.6 Fahrenheit each day the sun was so hot and bright 14 hours of sunshine every day It was the year of the ladybirds so they say Save water was the moto Reservoirs dried up to muddy grotto The adults prayed for rain Us kids wanted the heatwave never end and stay the same Fields of brown dried out grass And hot sticky nights would slowly pass From May to September If you was young enough You will remember
