The terrible truth

I spend my time with my nose stuck in a book Trying to escape, trying not to look But I can't hide from what my eyes will see I can't be someone other than me I don't want to know how bad the world has become And what's happening to both the old and young But I cannot hide from the truth Even I must see how the media has destroyed the youth Look at that girl quivering with fright Why should we be afraid to go out at night? Rape, murder, robbery too It can happen to me or you Shouldn't God be able to stop evil, he created it after all But he just sits up in his throne and watches us fall Jesus is just another fool And who said “ take drugs and you'll be cool”? I don't like seeing the world I love come to an end Can't it all stop and the bad things mend? And why is it that one moment it's true love and the next hate? Can this really be my fate? I don't want to be just another statistic, I want to be more that that And what difference does it make if you're thin or fat? Shouldn't we be accepted the way we are? And why must we be made miserable over a mere scar? Isn't it what's inside of me that really counts the most? We all have a talent over which we can boast So I say we should righten the wrong This evil has gone on much too long Why is there no escape? Why are babies being raped? I feel like I'm going mad Surely there can't be this much bad I want to pretend that it's all a dream I want to imagine I don't know what it means But why should I have to imagine when I'm only a youth? Why do I know the terrible truth?
