The Thorn Can't Heal the Thumb

Today’s light has struck my eyes Casting shadows on my brain The world around illuminates The path from Judas’s stain The blind man who I envy Falls baffled in the streets And rolls into the gutter Where Jesus Christ did bleed He knows not why he fell Nor why the darkness stings I plead to God for mercy To keep his eyes closed tight But the struggle is too much And his eye is forced to find That the joy took in what’s not seen Was false as home in darkness be From this scene I ran To the place I met my heart And found a black canary On whose chest I saw a scar With a wince he sound his lungs And said to me quite plain “Why you’re here I do not know On this land a curse has fell God has made a dreadful trade My wings for a silver spoon And your heart for untimely death Coming at the break of noon If it’s ecstasy you seek Or a place to see the stars My friend the odds are bleak That you’ll see anything but Mars So I’m telling you the truth Your freedoms in the sky But you must uproot your feet Yes I’m telling you to die” I fell into a patch Of electric yellow flowers Whose thorns carved in my skin The image of a tower “You must climb, you must climb” Cried the scarred canary “And attempt to top the sun And if you find that heights are scary Keep your eyes in your pocket And drop and hug the ground Though it shakes beneath you It keeps from falling down” I fled his hellish laugh With my arms a bloody mess Staining everything As ink poured from my chest Cast over by a shadow From a cosmic placed eclipse Man was met with darkness Where bodies don’t exist I don’t know if I was dreaming If the blackness was my own But from it arose a flower With petals bright as stars Shedding a billion sparks That set my mind ablaze And lifted from the earth This mechanistic haze Again I joined the sun In a dance amidst the skies As we had both grown wings And transcended all earth’s lies The sun, my new best friend Moves just where he pleases At his whim illuminates The faces that he teases These faces that are shadowed By the length of their own nose Immerse themselves in light That flowed from my tongues prose Then I met an angel To whom I gave my heart She pitied my pour soul But knew she must depart I watched her eyes like clouds Shaped by celestial winds Changing with each breath Drawn within the heavens As she tried to put my heart Back into my chest With trembling hands and lips And tears on cheeks so blessed But the thorn can’t heal the thumb And the dirt can’t wake the dead The heart that’s been struck dumb Cannot forget what’s said I lit a torch inside the sun And with it burned my eyes Cursing with my tongue That beauty drove me blind I wandered aimlessly And failed to find the blind man’s joy I called out to my angel For death hand’s to employ My ears drowned in a voice I think it must be God’s Or possibly a thief Who steals from day it’s dawn He said to me “I’m here To take from you what’s mine” I asked “What am I?” He said “I don’t have time” I fell face down in blood And watched him run away “They were but a loan” he screamed And took my legs and left me lame The ground beneath me rolled Like an oceans wave And tossed me near a creek Where I first was bathed Pushing myself in I said farewell to fear And in it’s gentle waters Drowned out every tear Floating down the river With my eyes upon the sky The clouds manipulated Each memory of mine Wisdom’s garden sprang from the sky Children laughed and cared not why Brothers smile in the summer sun The loving eyes that never run The lonely dove that strayed away The sunny shore where he came to stay The friends who laughed and loved and never cared About the changing winds they should have feared The soul for whom I first felt love Who broke the wings of heavens dove The angel’s face that changed the beat Of a heart that only knew the step of feet It’s too hard to stay and watch this sea Of visions rolling endlessly For this water soothes and my eyes are weak And there are different truths that I must seek My eyes feel about to weep So I think it’s time I get some sleep This one's pretty different from my other stuff. It was my first venture into abstract metaphors. I've been listening to a lot of Bob Dylan lately if that explains it, haha. I don't expect anyone to fully understand it, as it's really just a narrative of the last couple years of my life. I certainly hope you'll be able to identify with some of it. Anyways, I just wanted to see how this went over with you all. Thanks. Hope you enjoy it.

Umm. I love words. Their like glasses that you can fill with whatever you want. You can make all kinds of crazy concoctions or just a simple drink. Whatever it is you just gotta enjoy it. I mean you don't normally put coffee in a chalice but if you...
