The Unfinished Story

·Mental Journey

And they ran for their lives Or so they believed Laughing and gasping As they bobbed and weaved They ran through the trees From the fear they hadn’t seen So the story continued As he told her there in bed Until he looked in pain And his face turned red Twenty years later She is shopping it around Trying to sell his story Her tired feet pound the ground I can’t sell your story Was how it would always be The story is unfinished No one will pay you see One day her young neighbor was crying Her mom explained about her loss The woman offered to help the girl You know I have a familiar cross She said, “I can’t take the pain away, But I can help a little while, I can distract you with a story Until you are ready to smile.” She stopped by each week And told a little more Until the story hit its peak And there was no more to tell The girl’s eye shed a tear “This story is like my friend, Her story was just beginning It never got its end The woman smiled at the thought And this is what she said This was my father’s story He got sick you see my friend In the hospital I begged him You have to live to tell the end He said, “The story’s never over There is always more to tell Every beginning has a history Every ending leaves questions as well My part of the story’s now over Now it’s yours to tell Some day you’ll pass it on And the hurt will fade as well.” Three years later they sat for tea To see how the other had been The girl took out her published work Titled “The Unfinished Story” It made the women smirk It was about their time together And everything she said I am proud of you my friend You found the story’s end The girl sipped her tea And this is what she said, “My story is not over, It has only just begun.”

Mental Journey

I am on a journey of the mind. Contemplating the universe on every scale, and doing a complete introspective exploration. I may never be a literary academic, but I share my humble thoughts in hope that they may inspire others.
