THE WAGES OF SIN
THE WAGES OF SIN * The air hung still with heat and humidity as those filled with hope crowded the facility. * The tent issued refuge for weak and for weary, as the sick, the lame all waited to be healed. * The line was long at half past noon, as rich stood with poor, theyoung with the old. * The saints with the sinners, the children without shoes, They all took their seats on some old wooden chairs. * The man at the pulpit, well-fed and proud, in crisp white suit surveyed the crowd. * His shoes were dusted with righteous red earth. His followers eager for tales of re-birth. * In rhythmic perfection he starts with a whisper. A calming effect as he gained their attention * As the sweat started to drip, from his focused brow, he reaches for his hankerchief and wiped it alloff. * When he resumed, he went in for the kill, as crowds of the downtrodden began to swell. * The tent was now full at half past one, the crowd grew mesmerized at what he was saying. * His voice volume high but then back to low, he kept their attention commanding to follow. * With tales of damnation, and righteous redemption and bible scenarios of the wages of sin! * The crowd stood transfixed at half past two, as he begged them come forward so they could be healed! * The first one had demons that must be cast out. The second had spasms that caused him to shake. * The third one, he drank and just could not stop,. and so it continued till past three o’clock. * As they passed the basket they gave all their money. As the organ swelled he was pleading again. * When filled with the spirit, they certainly were generous. He hoped that for his sake they were not suspicious. * At half past four, the crowdsushered out. He can hardly wait to count up the change! * There’s some for the demon, and some for the spaz, and some for the drunk who just couldn’t stop. * When all’s said and done, he’s not done half bad. Not bad at all, for a day saving souls. * As they tear down the tent to hit the next town, he sits himself down and pours the next round! * WordPlaya, August 2009

I enjoy writing and since rediscovering the power of poetry, it has brought me much joy! My favorite poet is Richard Brautigan, and I am a big fan of freestyle poetry, as I find it less limiting and most creative. I also like spoken word poetry. ...
