There Upon the Road
I decided to stray away from my political style with this one, and just write a jaunty little narrative poem about a man who goes for a walk and runs into trouble along the way. No hidden messages, no metaphors, just a simple relating of events that happens to rhyme. Enjoy... From my home amongst the corn set off I To see where my road would take me Past the cattle barns and the hogs sties To see what I could see. When I came across a lady lonely Who asked from me the time of day But never wear a watch I, only If to her had I just a little more to say. But without a thought the lady answered Quite alright but let me ask you How is this boy as a dancer? Nary I replied but with a smile to The lady, holding out my hand and there We danced without a note We had no care as people stared Out there upon the road. When the dance was over said and done we Bowed and curtsied, went our ways But never did I just forget what could be The best part of my day. To my surprise before my eyes and Dressed in gaudy eccentricities rode Quite the haggard band, and every man did stand Out there upon the road. Demanded did these men from me a Hearty sum of coin and cash but where Was I to get such things? But blood Will have to do said one. I stared As jumped from he his horse, of course Did I not a thing ‘til he let fly With a bit of wood at me, remorse I felt when I was forced to bash him in the eye. I kicked and swung ‘til all was done, and set off I For home, had quite enough adventure For a day, and past the barns and sties went I With no fancies for more interest ventures. But yet my feet since always drove Me there upon the road.
