This Love

“I can’t live this way” He said this to me Doesn’t he see he has me on my knees Willing to do whatever I must Just to keep him To earn his trust Am I so bad? Have I done wrong? I try and try and try Futile as it may be To be the best person I possibly can To be his one and only Of misdeeds perpetrated by me twenty-three years before this love Before inception of this great love He’s taken judgement His ire Burns so white hot Fueled by the sparks of another’s fire Never have I worked so hard at something This love, I try so hard to cultivate Nurturing and pruning Setting the little things aside Wanting nothing more than this great love Sacrificing my pride Will this love survive such trials? Will I survive without this love? My heart hardens Seeing something so dear to me come to an end He has it all in his hands Yet he will not bend
