Time Traveller?
The tar of an empty road Radiates the afternoon heat With which the sun’s rays Have imbued it. Fear lies in the colour of rain clouds A dull grey lingering Between the brilliance of light And the fierce passion of night. It stultifies the true intensity And richness of all experience. Silence fills the air, With no cars in sight. An unexpected sound echoes, Drawing nearer. I glance down the road Searching for the musician Of the resonance filling my ears. On the horizon lies an image From another time. My mind battles to comprehend The misplaced picture before me An interloper to these surrounding Metal shoes dance with the tar Adding a new instrument To the beat of the urban jungle A man on horseback Glides pass me, The horse glowing with a healthy sheen, And I wonder Did he drop into my world From a forgotten age? He glances back at me, Our eyes meeting momentarily. Perhaps we met in a past life, Or he is a glimpse of my future. Then galloping off on his way And just as he disappears Into the horizon The fierce rain falls As if to erase any trace of my mysterious time traveler Note: I was waiting for the bus in Melville a few weeks ago. It had been a hot day, but was about to storm. I kept looking down the road to see if the bus was coming. Then there was a moment when i noticed that there were no cars (road completely empty), and out of nowhere this scruffy looking man came galloping past on a beautiful(looked well cared for) horse. It was bizarre. As soon as he had gone, the cars started coming down the road again and it started raining heavyly. He really looked like he was from another time.
