Unbidden They Come
Defined by destiny Fractured by fate Prophesied by providence Or glorified by God Unbidden they come Futile, Purposeless Filled with what ifs and might have beens Remembered moments seen as past lives With unchangeable circumstances and choices that cannot be erased Fleeting and breathless as they appear And if only for a moment we stop and perceive Lifetimes pass before our eyes with the things we couldn’t have changed Inconceivable how short-lived an instant shows such vast impossibilities And the many unique outcomes that accompany them there in There in the infinite imagination of our mind’s eye lies every choice and every second Of our lives that might have been that have yet to come And in the brief and passing seconds that we are fully let in to receive every minute detail That our souls retain we must choose either to glance at or to see Either to hear or to listen Either to let it those choices mold us or forget them there again and leave for an interminable time Until the next chosen instant allows us to glimpse again the outcomes of the briefest interludes and most diminutive decisions that could have or might have led us on to a different future So it is to us the choices lie and to us they will return whether wanted and sought after or rebelled against and denied Those choices will return to us and find us yet again when we are at the crossroads of yet more possibilities will those past choices define us or enable us to move into a new avenue Where our core convictions reign or remain but our past decisions no longer bind us to the fiery stakes of the what ifs and the might have beens In your life in these unbidden moments and unforeseen circumstances will you decide to remain with your choices or lose them there again in the darkest fractures of your mind.
