Into the dark, where I journey so far Lies a cold, jagged, and dire place A place where so many have travelled And now, so few remain Where the credence of joy, love, and faith once took place Is now sovereign by the masters of hate, desolation, and distain. I can feel the shadows of the past linger behind me Like a wolf who stalks it's prey Wondering from seconds into minutes If I'll ever see the light of day. I tell myself its not much further And that it's never too late To spark the embers into flames To reignite the fire that once burned through my veins As I trek onward to the hearth I see ghostly silhouettes of familiar people I use to know Reliving their traumas like a ship looking for it's port But no matter the length of their voyage So to speak These haunting figures will forever belong to the sea I finally make my way to the sand of time And I suddenly reflect on precious moments that were given to me Moments that I neglected and left behind Echoes from the sand plead onto me With every moan, groan, and cry To alleviate and turn back time Closer and closer now I near the abandon hearth Cold god-like winds lash against my skin Like a bullwhip to glass My bones become brittle They feel like granite turning to ash. But nevertheless, I must persevere See my entire future rest upon what I must do And for what I must keep safe What I must.....is survive And what I must.... is endure. For the time is now And the endgame is clear I will reignite my grace For my grace is a hearth and the hearth is my heart I'll defend it well And to the every end Forever vigorously against the dark
