Vesper
I never thought I'd change my way, Protected from it all, Taking chances day by day Behind a one-way wall The inner works, a mystery, Detached, a blur, unknown, An age, a time, a history All smothered under stone Sure of everything, and yet, Uncertain over love, Never had I seen, nor met The one sent from above Then she came like Vesper Lynd, A whisper on an autumn wind, Like Vesper, beautiful to see; Like Vesper, dangerous to me For once so happy, glowing, sure, I changed my ways for only her, Then betrayed, her cover tossed; My soul, and many years, were lost Lost in thought, past and lovers, Outside world unknown, Even when I drink with others I still drink alone Though armor's hardened now by far My wall must give no clue, Appear more simple than you are And no one can get through You say you can't live without love, Quite true, this noble rhyme. Darling, I'll still get my love-- One evening at a time
