Walls of Stone

I left behind my fear and doubt Sword in hand, I headed out Traveling in foreign lands Searching for a kindred soul to hold my hand. In another land, another city fortified with walls In the market I walked, treasures gleaming Eyes fell upon my face Reflected from the tower spire. No fear nor expectations in my heart Approached by this King's herald Honest and sincere their conversation flowed How honored I felt when the first gate opened. Standing there, surrounded by cold and clammy walls I sigh, content, quiet calm The sun warm on my face A warm sweet breeze blowing thru my hair. The conversation flows, taken for granted Until one night the herald doesn't ring With panic in my heart the walls close in I scream as the ceiling on my cell swing close. I never realized how important they were Those conversations in the dark The lulling animity of the dark, the distance between us The phone rings and I can breath at last. Time flows so quickly A night, two, a week The time of our first meeting arrive Like a knight he saves me, a damsel in distress. My quiet calm returns sitting near him A host of reasons I should worry He's a stranger, facial hair, no control Blissful and calm I relinquish the decisions. Who rapped on whose chamber door, Matters not, we both consented Those events , alas another poem Morning light found both safe and warm. Seven moons have passed Since his herald last rang Did I do something wrong? Did I not see the signs? I fear now that I a nothing but a notch On a bedpost with 64 others I gave my body, my mind, my soul I deserve better, I deserve more.
