What Change
Day before yesterday I couldn’t sleep The video footage on constant repeat Scrolling across my memory The closing arguments ringing in my ears Will justice be found this time? Yesterday ticked by with worry and wait What would the verdict be? Then the announcement came A decision had been reached 4 o’clock we would know They came on the news The jury filed in And the judge read the verdict aloud Guilty 1, Guilty 2, Guilty 3 and finally, unlike George We could breathe And the cheers went up And the hugs went around And the tears of relief flowed down Our faces Then a moment went by The talking heads started talking About all the change that is to come But will there really be change I worry and wonder Is this just a moment in time? Today I heard that one of the cops who killed Breonna wrote a book So he will now profit from her murder And I ask What change?
