What has been
She falls asleep with the picture in her hand Lost in a world of what was Pretending that today is yesterday She longs to see him one more time He dreams of the days he was a boxing champ Punching at the invisible air Clutching at the straws of what’s left of his memories And of a life that was and will never be again And as some choose to live in yesterday others Well others get to fall in love again They get to see the world from a whole new perspective And they are awed by what they find And then some are too weak to keep on fighting time That slow ticker ticking on Hopeless having lost their dignity And all that they long for is to go home When will the young realise they are also human They understand so much more of this ever-changing world They have so many stories to tell May God bless them from now unto eternity I wrote this in remembrance of my grandmother who passed away when I was 12
