When We Were Thirteen

Delicate layers of frost covers dying leaves The harsh morning wind blowing all the trees You’d wrap you're face into you're scarf till you could barely see We walked into the mist filled morning, that’s how it used to be The bitter cold surrounded us, we held each other tight The faint tracks on the dirt road would always guide us right Your warm lips that kissed mine, that kiss would last all day Until reunited in the evening that was just the way We shared all of our secrets on the long way home The road remembers you're heartaches even now you're gone You're crying it still haunts me, tears frozen to you're cheek You never longed to go home, it was like that every week We made ambitious plans, we longed just to be free There were good times in front of us, we could have been happy We stared into the sunset before you returned home I should've told you that I loved you as the next day you were gone The misty mornings grew rare, the dark evenings now light I often thought about you and wondered of you're plight The walk to school was dismal without you at my side Winters beauty had vanished, it was me this time that cried Even now I still remember you on unsympathetic winter days When walking down that dirt road my mind will always stray I imagine that you're with me, morning light made you're face gleam I wont forget the time we had together when we were thirteen
